What banks will let you use a credit card for the opening deposit when you open a savings account? March 9, 2010
Posted by Banking in : Personal Finance , 6commentsI want to open a savings account for about $700 and charge the opening deposit to a credit card. The credit card gets points, which would be good for a gift card if I had about 700 more. I want to close the credit card account, but only after I get enough points, to not waste the points I already have. I’m going to open a savings account anyway, so I figure I might as well get those 700 points from it. In any case, the savings account should pay high interest and should allow transactions between banks online.
For example, Bank of America will let you open a checking account online, and use a credit card to fund it. The credit card transaction will be a purchase, not a cash advance. But I want to know what other banks will do that, and which of them will do it for savings accounts.Submited by:Dilbert

Closing a credit card account that is inactive? How much will it affect my credit report? March 8, 2010
Posted by Banking in : Credit , 5commentsI’ve had this account for about two years, and I haven’t used it in a long time, and I’m thinking of closing it but I don’t know how it would affect my credit report. This is a secure credit card, with only a $300 limit. I have two other credit cards that I use a lot more often and I’ve been very responsible about paying bills on time.Submited by:jenahfah
What is the best credit card to apply for for the first time? March 8, 2010
Posted by Banking in : Credit , 6commentsI have years of excellent on-time rental history, however I have no credit because I’ve never been in debt (always pay bills on time) go figure. I was wondering which credit cards I could apply for, for the first time. Wal-Mart Credit card rejected me because I have no credit, and I’m just looking for something small so I can put things on the card and pay them off quickly to establish some sort of credit. Any suggestions?

Posted by Banking in : Personal Finance , 5commentsThis, of course, was long before FDIC where which guarantees the safety of deposits in member banks, currently up to $250,000 per depositer.
How did the banks before FDIC recover money in the event of a robbery, like the Ashley gang robbery, or a bank run? Did the bank immediately go under?

Of course the obvisious answer would be MONEY. Everyone would love to bank or open an account with a bank that gives free money. But lets put money aside for one second. What other ways can a bank get your attention and get you to be one of their customers? Lets start with products. Free checking, no atm fees, extended hours, better interest rates, no fees for overdraft or even give excellent customer service, etc… How can a bank better serve you? Now what about activities, giveaways, or promotions can a bank do to attract you? For example, kids events, charitity events, pens, sport bottles, food, vacation packages, gift certificates, etc… What kind of trinkets or goodies do you like to recieve from companies?
