What happens if one bank closes your account but you have 10 others? April 10, 2010
Posted by Banking in : Personal Finance , 2commentsLets say one bank closes your account due to overdraft that hasn’t been paid and they report you to the credit bureau that regulates banks which means you can’t open another account.
But you still have 10 other bank accounts with other banks…. do they get closed too?Submited by:¬¿¬

How much will closing a credit card account affect my credit rating? March 23, 2010

Despite a flawless payment history over the last 20 years, Citibank is raising my rate by 5%. I would easily give them the heave-ho, but I’ve heard that a long-standing credit card account has a positive effect on your credit rating. How big a hit would my credit rating take if I closed the Citibank account?

CDs with Navy Federal Credit union a good idea right now? March 14, 2010
Posted by Banking in : Personal Finance , 2commentsI have an account with the Navy Federal Credit Union. I’ve been thinking about openning to CD with them for a while. But I’m not sure with all the Banking troubles we are having. Would it be a bad idea? Would I risk losing money if I did this now? Should I wait till things get resolved?

What banks will let you use a credit card for the opening deposit when you open a savings account? March 9, 2010
Posted by Banking in : Personal Finance , 6commentsI want to open a savings account for about $700 and charge the opening deposit to a credit card. The credit card gets points, which would be good for a gift card if I had about 700 more. I want to close the credit card account, but only after I get enough points, to not waste the points I already have. I’m going to open a savings account anyway, so I figure I might as well get those 700 points from it. In any case, the savings account should pay high interest and should allow transactions between banks online.
For example, Bank of America will let you open a checking account online, and use a credit card to fund it. The credit card transaction will be a purchase, not a cash advance. But I want to know what other banks will do that, and which of them will do it for savings accounts.Submited by:Dilbert
