Will closing my checking account affect the credit card I have with the same bank? November 26, 2009

Do I still keep the bank credit card and use it (as to not affect my credit score)? Or would I have to cancel since I no longer bank with them? Thanks.

I think You still can maintain your credit card.
I think As long as you are with a bank it should not. However, if you are with a credit union you need to check what the member guidelines are since they may differ slightly.
You can use this credit monitoring service to pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of such payments – creditreport.imess.net
You should not do it.
Well it depends on your bank. However, its hardly ever the case. You can keep your credit card and close your bank account but I wouldn’t recommend it. Since you already built a relationship with your bank with a checking and credit card account then I would say just keep it but don’t use it.
As for your credit score, you should really try out this new site ( ). They give you a free credit score everyday you want to see it. (They pay for this by advertising you the credit cards that match your score, but you can just ignore them. Try it, its totally free)
I think No there won’t b any impact/effect on the Credit cards.
I think If your credit card is issued to you because you have a checking account with at least $500.00 at the same bank, you cannot close that account. This is what is called a secured card. Secured by the balance in your checking account. If you close the checking account, you must be ready to close the credit card also.
But if your checking account has nothing to do with your credit card even if they are from the same bank, you can close it any time.
Credit score is not really affected by the checking account. But it is good to keep one. It’s practical.

Nope,.! Not at all,.. The Credit Card division – unless, you’ve tied same together,..works independently,..
Meanwhile, bad credit,..dishonored checks,.suspicious, bounced checks, etc,..no doubt, will
cause you lose the checking account,..
You may lose the credit card should you repeatedly demands lower interests,..Or,.repeatedly
over draw,..You normally, would have no problems with either set up,..
