Can an ISP check your credit for service? November 6, 2009

Dvd asked:

I just got off the phone with AT&T and they said that they could not give me Uverse service because my credit came back as a “High Risk”…
I have never heard of an ISP (Internet Service Provider) checking customer credit for service.

Is this legal? Is this consumer discrimination?

BTW, I’m in Texas.

Yes. All service providers run credit checks and have been doing so since the 1960s. Electric, phone, cable and so on.
