While you can cancel the service during the "free" period (typically around 7 to 14 days) it can be difficult to figure out how to do so. Many of these services will bury the instructions in file print during the sign-up process and if you don't write it down separately at that time it may be nearly impossible to cancel the service quickly enough to avoid the charge on your credit card.
